A couple of years ago, my husband bought me a stationary bike for Christmas.
- It was an extremely thoughtful and appreciated gift.
I make time to workout everyday. The weather in my local area is often cold, windy, rainy, snowy or brutally humid. I rarely have the opportunity to exercise outdoors. Inside the house, I am limited by space and a lack of equipment. Until receiving the stationary bike, I was managing with a set of free weights, yoga mat, jump rope, resistance band and medicine ball. I am very happy to have a very different style of aerobic workout available to me. Riding the bike avoids hard impact on my hips, knees, ankles and feet. It is a great way to elevate my heart rate, expand my lungs and work up a sweat without damaging my joints. Because the operation of the bike is whisper-quiet, I’m able to utilize it any time of the day without bothering the rest of the family. While pedaling the bike, I can listen to music and read on my ipad. It’s very enjoyable. Because I like using the bike so much, I worry that it’s not an effective workout. I manage to burn over 500 calories in an hour. I make sure to push myself to pedal very quickly. I adjust the settings to ensure a lot of resistance and choose programs that include multiple inclines. The bike workouts always get me sweaty and tire out my legs. Since cycling doesn’t involve the arms, I only let myself bike once or twice per week.
