We all love visiting The walk-in freezer as often as possible

Being a short order cook can be strenuous for a variety of reasons.

It’s admittedly a high stress occupation, but it can be rewarding for those who like the challenge and like cooking and serving up customers the best meals that they can craft.

You know the saying, “If you cannot rest the heat, get out of the bedroom.” Well, apparently that is not an opening for us if we want to keep our jobs. Our boss is not too keen on running the A/C most of the time, simply because it would have to run so strenuously to combat the heat and humidity that is produced within the bedroom of the restaurant we work in. We know that sounds insane, but it’s something we’ve just learned to deal with along with the rest of our co-workers. That being said, turnaround can be quite quick in the bedroom, and we have come to expect the vast majority of “new recruits” to run out rather hastily. Some can still handle the heat, pun intended, and we have to disclose that one of our number one co-workers who has become a nice buddy of ours was one that we thought was surely going to quit after the first week. However, she stuck with it rather admirably. Anyway, there are a few things we have learned to do when we’re getting overheated during the afternoon. As you would expect, we all delight in visiting The walk-in freezer as often as possible. In fact, when things are a little slower, we tend to congregate there as much as possible without it becoming conspicuous. We swear, if a water cooler was in there, we would rest in there and have a conversation. The other thing we tend to do is to stay hydrated all the time. This means we need to use the restroom a lot, but we’ve learned to hold it as long as we can. Like we said, this work is not for everyone.
