It’s funny how we can end up doing things as adults that were dreams as kids.
For me, I grew up in circumstances that weren’t all that great, so I had plenty of dreams that had to wait to be fulfilled.
My mom was a single mother and we were quite poor. Our home didn’t even have a current central air conditioner. Instead, there was a wood stove for heating and fans for cooling in the summer. I didn’t love air conditioners until after I graduated school. Even our dorm room didn’t have a central air conditioner. There was a massive boiler in that dorm building, which provided intense radiant heating all winter. There would be so much heating coming from the radiators that we’d have to crack a window, no, our first air conditioner was inside the home I had after school, and that was a heat pump that had seen better days. Once I got cemented in our work, and became a homeowner, I made sure I had some wonderful quality heating as well as air. But I also started making some other childhood dreams come true. It may sound strange however I ended up building a treehouse. This is something I had constantly wanted but never had. There were these perfect oak trees on our property that would be the perfect base for a cool tree house. I love this space, and even had a ductless heat pump installed so I have an air conditioner. For sure, having an air conditioner in our tree current home is perhaps a bit loopy. But I have to say that it’s way better than a man cave to me.
