Leaky windows meant the HVAC didn’t work as well

My husband and I are slowly replacing the windows in our house.

For years we were convinced that our home HVAC unit was just too small to achieve the temperature we set on the thermostat. We figured eventually the HVAC had to be switched with a larger one. Well, now that we are replacing windows, there is a different story being told. The new windows actually are airtight. No cold air leaks around the frame. My husband has really tried to insulate and caulk around each one. They can lock properly too in the evening. We used to have a cat door in the one window that let in quite a bit of air. Our side door now replaces that and it is a much more efficient system. Not every window is changed but I would say 70% of them are. With the new windows the HVAC unit is doing much better. No air is leaking in our HVAC treated hair. Due to this, the HVAC is having an easier time achieving the temperature control setting. I actually can have the house cold or hot depending on what I set it too. For the first time since I have moved in, I have heard the HVAC turn off for a bit. I was amazed. I think once all the windows are replaced the HVAC is going to work fine. I think it is properly sized for the home. The problem was the home had leaky windows that were messing with the heater and air conditioner. I am glad my husband and I won’t need to buy a new one.
