I couldn't understand the HVAC technician.

I know I’m hard of hearing, but I’m not so bad that the words are indistinguishable.

I have hearing aids to help me, and I wear them all the time.

I sometimes forget to take them out when I go to bed. Last week, the HVAC technician came to the house to work on our furnace. He showed me his badge when he walked in, and I showed him to the furnace. My husband wasn’t home from work yet, so I hoped he would stay busy long enough for him to talk to him. An hour later, the HVAC technician came upstairs and started talking to me. I couldn’t understand a word he was saying, and he was talking so fast it was even worse. I told him to sit down and my husband would be here in two minutes. He sat down, but he was still talking. I asked him to wait and tell my husband what he was trying to tell me, and I pointed to my hearing aids. He got upset and said something about prejudice, and I picked up the phone. I had a phone that printed out what the person was saying. I told the HVAC company that I had upset their HVAC technician because I couldn’t understand him and told them I was deaf. While I was on the phone, my husband walked in the door. After a couple of minutes, the HVAC technician was laughing, and he soon left. My husband told me the HVAC technician had a Spanish accident, but once he knew I was deaf, he was no longer angry.
