Should have called the HVAC professionals

It seems like every time the heat pump kicks on, it’s mocking me a bit.

Well, maybe not mocking me but it’s a near constant reminder of how bad I blew it with regard to the HVAC equipment.

Fortunately, I live in a region where we don’t need much heating during the winter. So at least I’ve had the last few months to try and forget what I’ve done to the residential HVAC. Basically, every time the HVAC equipment comes on, I remember that it no longer has a warranty. All of that is on me. But there are two reasons this happened. The first is I don’t have a warranty on my HVAC equipment because I didn’t follow the basic instructions of the HVAC contractor. When we had our new residential HVAC unit installed 6 years ago, he told me plainly to read the HVAC warranty very carefully. He also told me to register the HVAC warranty right away because there was a limited window of opportunity. Thankfully, my wife took care of that or I would voided the warranty even sooner. Had I read the warranty on my HVAC equipment, I would have immediately called the HVAC company when I came home to no cooling air coming out of the air ducts. This was early last fall and I was surprised because the heat pump was running. I figured maybe there was something just completely obvious that needed to be replaced or something. I ended up bashing around and causing a bit more damage before I finally called the HVAC professionals. That’s when the HVAC technician broke the news that while that heat pump was fixed, it was no longer covered under a factory warranty. This is because the warranty clearly states that no one but an HVAC professional can attempt a repair.
