They have a basement which he has never been in but he is sure there is one down there as well.
Ike’s dad takes him to his grandparents almost every weekend. At times he stays the night but that happens usually once a week. The reason he doesn’t stay there more often is that they live about an hour from their cabin and his dad doesn’t want to make multiple trips in a week to their house. Ike’s grandparents don’t drive so it’s only on his dad. When he does get to stay the night Ike has the greatest of times. His grandma makes this delicious Spanish rice, his grandfather plays checkers and they go for a long walk down this dirt road that’s next to their house. The disadvantage is, he has to sleep on their couch which he wouldn’t care for but this is a really old couch and it’s itchy. These days there is a struggle with sleep. That’s easily the only exhausting thing. Ike finds one thing unusual when he is there though. They have a portable space heater in each room. That is the dining room, living room, bedroom, and even the bathroom. Ike finds it really odd. They have a basement which he has never been in but he is sure there is one down there as well. He doesn’t know why they just use their thermostat controls to increase the heat in the house. Ike talked to his grandma the other day and she explained it to him. His grandfather prefers to have temperature control in each room that he is in, but grandma also stated that she does not like the thermostat set to the temperature that grandpa prefers so that was their compromise to stay together about 25 years ago. He didn’t realize that thermostat controls almost broke them apart.
